The Entourage Effect… Not just 1 or 2.

It is difficult to understand the universe when you only study one planet.

~Miyamoto Musashi~

Too many entities in the weed universe seem to only focus on one of two molecules. THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (Cannabidiol) is all everyone ever discusses. THC for those who may not know already, is the one that get’s you high. CBD, as you may or may not have heard, has been found to be a great antiinflammatory and a great anticonvulsant. But these are the only two molecules that are ever looked at. Kind of a narrow perspective, no?

The last time I looked, cannabis had 483 known compounds within the plant. But for some reason “They” only want to talk about THC and CBD. The thing is… If you take a closer look at it all, one can find many other complimentary chemicals in the line up. Let me explain.

Let’s say an individual is dealing with pain. Many cases associated with pain are due to inflammation. So, one may assume they just need the CBD. Cannabichromene (CBC), Cannabidiolic Acid (CBDa), Cannabigerol (CBG), Cannabinol (CBN), Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid (THCa) have also been found to have anti inflammatory properties as well. So, why would we only look at that one molecule? But, let’s go a little deeper… Like the smells and flavors, the Terpenes.

Cannabis comes in an array of smells and flavors, which are found in the plants terpenes. Some can be piney while another is fruity and both can have the same benefits. But let’s go back to our individual who is dealing with inflammatory pain. If the Cannabis the individual is consuming have higher levels of Pinene (which is also found in things like sage and pine needles) or Myrcene (also available in things like citrus fruits and bay leaves) also have anti inflammatory properties to them. We could be really doing so much more for this person other than CBD.

It just seems that the further along we get in all this, the further away we get from what it is…  Let’s just face the simple facts here, cancer has never been cured by Marinol and we could be doing more for seizures than Epidiolex. Especially when we’re looking at such a vast group of compounds that all seem to either compliment or support one another. This is called The Entourage Effect. Why would you want to break up the band?
