Wellness Connection of Maine, the state’s largest medical marijuana provider, is moving one of its dispensaries into a historic, 103-year-old train station in the small town of Gardiner.

Chalk it up to growth and a desire to ramp up production of edibles.

The Wellness Connection dispensary in the town of Hallowell has outgrown its current space, prompting the move to a train station that has been abandoned for more than a decade. The new location – to open next week – will boast a commercial-grade kitchen to manufacture edibles for all of Wellness Connection’s dispensaries, according to reports.

Wellness Connection, which began operating in 2011, has four locations in the state.

Gardiner Mayor Thom Harnett welcomed the business but said the city will work with residents to address community concerns, as having a medical marijuana dispensary is a new concept in the town.

Wellness Connection said it chose the location because the building can accommodate an edibles kitchen and also is accessible to those with disabilities. The dispensary chain previously made edibles by partnering with local restaurants and bakeries.
